Men’s Basketball Heads Home After Win at Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, ARK. – The East Central University men's basketball team earned a key Great American Conference game at Arkansas-Monticello, 69-64.  With the win the Tigers (9-4, 5-3 GAC) move up to 5-3 (5th) in the league standings and push the Boll Weevils (10-4, 6-2 GAC) to a 6-2 mark (tied for 3rd).

Scoring
  • First Half: 34-29
    • The Tigers opened the game with a 10-2 run in the first 3:15
    • Neither team scored for the next two minutes
      • The Boll Weevils then went on an 8-0 run to tie the game at 10
    • The teams then traded shots and the lead until the final two minutes
      • 10 Tie Scores / 12 Lead Changes
      • ECU went on a 5-0 run from 2:03 to 1:40 remaining to earn the advantage
  • Second Half:
    • Both teams landed two shots in the first two minutes then went cold
      • The Tigers held a 40-33 lead
      • Both of ECU's shots were triples made by Sr. Jamey Wood
    • UAM got back to scoring first, using a 6-0 run until 15:40 remained
      • Run got the Boll Weevils within one point (40-39)
    • The Tigers broke their scoreless streak with 14 minutes left to push the lead back to three (44-41)
    • UAM kept fighting and was able to tie the game at 44 and take a 46-44(12:59) lead
    • ECU was then able to keep control of the ball for the next minute
      • The Boll Weevils committed four personal fouls during the span
      • The Tigers scored on the possession to tie the game at 46
    • For the next six minutes both teams scored just 10 points each
      • Long periods without a basket
      • UAM went on a 6-2 run until 9:03 for a 52-48 advantage
      • ECU went on a 7-3 run over the next three minutes to tie the game at 55
    • In the next 2:30 minutes, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run for a 62-55 advantage
    • The Boll Weevils then went on a 4-0 run in the next three minutes
      • Cut the ECU advantage to three (62-59), with 42 seconds left
    • UAM kept fighting and was able to cut the disadvantage to three
      • Used a 5-1 run to make the score 67-64
    • Two free throws, with just 2.7 seconds left secured the win for the Tigers
