Men’s Basketball Wins Home Opening Thriller Against Southern Nazarene

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University men's basketball team did not disappoint their fans in the first game at the Kerr Activities Center for the 2019-20 season, coming back to defeat Southern Nazarene 81-80 in Great American Conference action.

Scoring
  • 1st Half: 31-36
    • The teams battled through the first 5:30 minutes to a 12-all tie
    • The Crimson Storm (5-3, 1-1 GAC) then went on a 13-6 run over the next four minutes to lead by 7 (18-25)
    • SNU kept the lead around 7 for the next 3 minutes
    • The Tigers (4-1, 1-1 GAC) then went on a 5-0 run to decrease the disadvantage to 2 (29-27), with 3:52 remaining
    • The Crimson Storm used a 7-4 run for a five-point lead at the half
  • 2nd Half: 50-44
    • SNU increased the lead to 9 in the first minute
    • ECU then went on a 14-4 run to tie the game at 44, with 15:53 left on the clock
      • The Tigers continued the run to 24-6 to lead by 8 (54-46), with 12:43 remaining
    • Both teams went cold for the next 2:30 minutes
    • ECU was the first to break the drought and increased its lead to 10 half way through the stanza
    • The Tigers held the lead between 7-11 points for the next 3:30 minutes
    • The Crimson Storm then went on a 6-0 run over the next minute to decreased the deficit to four (64-60)
    • ECU kept the lead around 9 until the final two minutes
    • SNU then pushed back with a 7-0 run in the next 40 seconds to the drop the difference to 2 (76-74)
    • The Crimson Storm hit two triples in the remaining time to cut the lead to one
    • SNU got within one (81-80) with 8 seconds remaining
    • The Tigers missed two free throws with 4 seconds left
    • The Crimson Storm had one more 3/4-court shot, but just missed
