Women’s Basketball Ends Record-Setting Season at GAC Quarterfinals

BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. – The No. 2 seeded East Central University women's basketball team fell in a nail-biting double-overtime game against No. 7 Arkansas Tech in the 2018-19 Great American Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinals.

  • First Quarter: 17-22
    • The Golden Suns (14-15) took a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes
    • The Tigers (21-8) followed with a 4-0 run in the next 30 seconds
    • ECU kept fighting and cut the deficit to one (12-11) with four minutes left
    • ATU followed with a 4-0 run to push its lead back to five (16-11) over the next minute
    • The teams traded shots in the final minutes of the stanza
  • Second Quarter: 19-17 (36-39)
    • The Tigers' disadvantage was kept between 3-6 points for the first 4:30 minutes
    • The Golden Suns then went on an 8-2 run over the next 2:30 minutes to push the lead to nine

    • The teams then traded shots for the final five minutes
    • Tied at 50 with 1:12 left and stayed that way through the end of the stanza
  • Fourth Quarter: 12-12 (62-62)
    • The Golden Suns took control early in the quarter going on an 8-2 run
      • Led 58-52, 5:29 on the clock
    • An And-1 by Jr. Madison Nickens cut the deficit to three (60-57)
      • That started a 5-0 run that cut the lead to one (60-59) with three minutes to play
    • ATU followed with a 2-1 run to keep control of the scoreboard
    • With 54 seconds left, So. Madison Rehl stole the ball at mid-court and had an easy lay-up to tie the game at 62
    • With 30 seconds remaining the Golden Suns threw the ball out of bounds on their baseline
    • ATU then stole the ball from the Tigers with 4.0 seconds left
    • The Golden Suns had one more chance but missed a three-point attempt as time ran out to force overtime
  • Overtime: 6-6 (68-68)
    • ATU went on a 2-0 run in the first 2:30 minutes of the period
    • ECU tied the game 2:21 remaining on a layup by Sr. Lakin Preisner
    • The Tigers then got one free throw from Rehl (1:55) to take a one-point lead
    • The Golden Sun responded with a jumper, with 1:36 left to take a 66-65 lead
    • Sr. Tia Williams gave ECU a two-point lead with a three-pointer, with 43 seconds left on the clock
    • ATU was sent to the free-throw line with 23 seconds left, making 2-of-2 to tie the game at 68

    • The Golden Suns gained the lead early, going on a 5-0 run in the first two minutes
