Women’s Basketball Picks Up Fourth-Straight Win

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The East Central University women's basketball team claimed its fourth-straight victory, defeating Southern Arkansas 81-77 at W.T. Watson Athletic Center.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 22-21
    • The Muleriders (16-10, 10-10 GAC) started the game on a 6-0 run in the first 1:30
    • The Tigers (9-17, 7-13 GAC) used the next three minutes to get within one (12-11), on an 11-6 run
    • SAU countered with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to 7 in the next 1:30
    • The teams traded shots over the next minute
    • ECU ended the stanza on a 9-0 run to take the one-point lead
  • 2nd Quarter: 12-14 (34-35)
    • The teams traded runs throughout the quarter
    • The Tigers extended their run from the end of the first quarter to 11-0 in the first 15 seconds
    • The Muleriders followed with a 9-1 run over the next 3 minutes to go ahead 30-25

    • In the first 1:30 the Muleriders used a 6-2 run to gain a 5-point advantage
    • Over the next three minutes the Tigers countered with a 9-2 run, to regain a 45-43 lead
    • The game was quickly tied at 45 and then saw SAU leading 48-45 over the next 1:30
    • The teams traded shots through the rest of the quarter
  • 4th Quarter: 25-23 (81-77)
    • After hitting the last shot in the third quarter ECU added the first in the fourth to take a 58-54 lead
    • The Tigers kept the lead around four for the first three minutes
    • ECU then took over for good, using a 6-0 run over a two-minute span to increase the lead to 70-62
    • The Tigers kept the lead between 4-8 points for the rest of the game
