Men’s Basketball Holds Off Southwestern in Overtime

ADA, Okla. – For the second-straight game and the third time in 2019-20, it took extra stanzas for the East Central University men's basketball team to earn a victory, this time defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State, 95-93, in overtime at the Kerr Activities Center.

  • 1st Half: 42-37
    • The teams traded the first two shots before the Tigers (16-5, 10-5 GAC) went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead
    • The Bulldogs (10-11, 6-9 GAC) followed with a 4-0 run in the next minute to get back within one (7-6)
    • ECU countered with a 13-2 run over the next 6 minutes to lead 20-8
    • The battle resumed for the next minute before SWOSU went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one (23-22), with 9 minutes remaining
    • The teams traded shots for the next minute
    • The Tigers added a 6-0 run in the next 1:15 to take a 32-24 advantage, with 6:45 left
    • No team scored for almost the next 2 minutes
    • The teams traded shots for the next 3 minutes, with ECU pushing the lead to 39-28

    • So. Tylor Arnold hit a triple, with 13.8 seconds left, to cut the disadvantage to 1
    • SWOSU had a chance to make it a 3-point game, with 12.6 seconds remaining, but went 1-of-2 from the charity stripe
    • Jackson then hit a layup with 5.1 seconds left to tie the game at 81
  • OT: 14-12 (96-93)
    • The teams traded shots for the first minute of the extra stanza (83-all)
    • ECU went up 86-83 before the Bulldogs cut the deficit to one (86-85), with 2:41 left
    • The Tigers then went on a 5-2 run over the next minute to lead 91-87
    • SWOSU fought back to tie the game at 93 (21.7 seconds remaining), with a 6-2 run
    • The final scoring came with 2.4 seconds left when Sr. Zac Neely hit 2 free throws for the win
