Women’s Basketball Win Streak Ends at Southern Nazarene

BETHANY, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team saw their eight-game winning streak end, with a 61-56 loss at Southern Nazarene.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 11-16
    • The start of the game was close, with no team leading by more than four
    • Three tie scores up to 11-all, with 2:30 left
    • The Crimson Storm (3-5, 3-5 GAC) then went on a 5-0 run in the final minutes
  • 2nd Quarter: 14-14 (25-30)
    • SNU continued the run into the second quarter
      • Went on a 6-1 run in the first two minutes
    • The Tigers (8-2, 8-2 GAC) followed with a 4-0 run, in the next five minutes, to cut the disadvantage to six
    • The Crimson Storm held the lead around 10 until the final two minutes
    • ECU used a 6-1 run during the span to cut the deficit to five
  • 3rd Quarter: 21-15 (46-45)
    • The Tigers came out firing and went on a 10-3 run in the first five minutes to take a two-point lead
    • Both teams used small runs through the final five minutes, but it was two free-throws, with 31 seconds left that gave ECU a one point lead to end the stanza
  • 4th Quarter: 10-16 (56-61)
    • No basket scored in the first three minutes (three-pointer by SNU)
      • ECU went 3-of-4 at the free-throw line
    • SNU kept up the defensive pressure and took a 51-49 lead, with 4:53 left, before the Tigers scored their first basket
    • The teams then traded points, mostly at the charity stripe, until 2:45 remained on the clock
      • The Crimson Storm took a two-point advantage
    • The Tigers went 1-of-2 from the free throw line, with a minute left, to keep the advantage with SNU (56-57)
    • After two missed layup attempts by ECU, with 20 seconds left, they were forced to foul
      • The Crimson Storm hit both free throws to push the lead to three, with 12 seconds left
    • SNU fouled with 14 seconds left and the Tigers missed both free throws
    • The Crimson Storm followed with two missed free throws of their own with 10 seconds remaining
    • ECU missed their final attempt to tie the game before another two free throws gave the final five-point difference
