Men’s Basketball Downs Northwestern to Advance to GAC Quarterfinals

ADA, Okla. – The No. 3 East Central University men's basketball team used an 81-56 victory over No. 6 Northwestern Oklahoma State, in the Kerr Activities Center, to advance to the 2020-21 Great American Conference Quarterfinal round.

Scoring
  • 1st Half: 29-27
    • The Rangers (3-13, 1-12 GAC) opened the game on a 7-0 run, in the first 2:30 minutes
    • NWOSU kept up the pressure over the next three minutes to lead by 10 (2-12)
    • The Tigers (10-8, 9-8 GAC) then started their come back, using an 18-4 run, over the next five minutes, to gain a 20-16 lead
    • ECU held onto the lead until the final five minutes (25-20)
    • The Rangers then went on a 7-0 run, over the next two minutes, to push ahead by two (25-27)
    • The teams traded shots the rest of the half, with the Tigers hitting a buzzer beater to take a two-point lead into halftime
  • 2nd Half: 52-29 (81-56)
    • ECU poured on the offensive right from the start of the half
      • In the first 2:30 minutes the Tigers pushed the lead to nine (39-30)
    • ECU kept up the pressure throughout the remaining time
      • Led by double-digits for the first time, with 16 minutes left (42-32)
      • Led by 20, with 10 minutes remaining (59-39)
    • The Tigers kept the advantage between 15-20 points until the final 1:30 minutes
      • Pushed the lead to as many as 25
