Tiger Athletics Week at a Glance – April 6-10, 2021

ADA, Okla. – This week East Central University athletic teams will be fighting in Great American Conference Championship Tournaments and wrapping up their 2020-21 seasons.

The week starts with softball and volleyball competing on Tuesday, April 6.  The softball team will open the day at 2 p.m. against Southeastern Oklahoma State.  The teams will first finish up the second game of the series that ended in a 9-9 tie after eight innings March 9 at Southeastern due to lack of light.  They will then play the final game of the series.

The volleyball team will continue the action that night, hosting a first round GAC Volleyball Championship Tournament match.  ECU finished the season as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m.  The winner of the match will move on to face No. 1 Oklahoma Baptist, Thursday, April 8.

The baseball and softball teams are set to play Friday, April 9 against Southern Nazarene to start a busy weekend.  The baseball team will host the Crimson Storm for a single game Friday, April 9 (3 p.m.) and then a doubleheader Saturday, April 10 at 1 p.m.

The softball team will hit the road for the series with SNU, playing a single game Friday, April 9 at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday, April 10 starting at 1 p.m.

Saturday will see a full slate of action at home and on the road.  The day will also include the first round of the GAC Soccer Championship Tournament.  The Tigers are currently ranked No. 4, but will have to wait until Tuesday's GAC matches are finished to find out if they will host a match or hit the road, Saturday, April 10.

The track & field team will return to action Saturday at the East Texas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.

The week will be rounded out by the final football game of the 2020-21 season, as the Tigers host Lincoln at 1 p.m. in Koi Ishto Stadium.

Football game attendance will be capped at 50% stadium capacity (2,500).  Attendance will be first-come, first-serve and fans will only be permitted to sit in the stands.  No outside chairs will be allowed and standing on the track will not be permitted.  Entrance will be through the main gate only and gates will open one hour before kickoff.

The GAC indoor sports attendance policies will remain in effect for the rest of the 2020-21 regular season.   Home team student-athletes and non-student coaches will have a limited guest list, with no visiting team fan attendance.

ECU will allow attendance at all outdoor sports, but it will be limited by the capacity of each venue.  Attendance is free for all fans, with seating on a first come, first served basis.  At soccer, softball and baseball, fans may sit in bleachers where socially distanced by household groups or in self-provided chairs, as long as socially distanced 6 feet from the fences surrounding the playing area.

Fans will not be permitted to gather behind home plate/backstop areas nor team areas (dugouts, benches, etc.) and are asked to refrain from interacting with players on either team at the site of competition prior to, during and following the games.

ECU remains committed to enforcing a mandatory mask and social distancing mitigation effort on the entire campus.
