Volleyball Starts UCO/OC Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team played its first two matches of the Central Oklahoma/Oklahoma Christian Tournament, battling at OC for the day.  The Tigers (0-7) first fell to Newman 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-20, 25-22) and then to the host Eagles (4-2) 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-10).

Scoring
  • Set 1: 18-25
    • The Teams battled through several tie scores in the opening 14 serves
    • The Jets (4-1) then used a 7-0 run to take control of the set
    • Newman kept the lead around four the rest of the set
  • Set 2: 25-17
    • The teams again toggled the score until they were knotted at 5
    • The Tigers then used a 7-0 to gain the needed advantage
    • ECU kept the advantage around 7 the remainer of the set
  • Set 3: 20-25
    • The opening set battle continued to a 7-all tie
    • The Jets then broke the stalemate, with an 8-1 run
    • The Tigers never gave up and cut the deficit from 9 to 4, with Newman sitting at set point
  • Set 4: 22-25
    • The teams traded the first 12 serves, for a 6-all tie
    • ECU then pulled ahead with a 5-0 run (11-6)
    • The Jets countered with a 4-1 run to get back within 2 (12-10)
    • The teams then got knotted at 15, 18 and 19 before someone got control
    • Newman used a 4-0 run to take the needed advantage
Oklahoma Christian 3, ECU 0
  • Set. 1: 23-25
    • The teams traded the first six serves
    • The Tigers claimed the next two points, but OC followed with a 3-0 run to take the lead for good
    • The Eagles kept pushing the tempo and increased the lead to as many as eight (18-10)
    • ECU then fought back late in the set and got within one, but ended up falling 25-23
  • Set 2: 19-25
    • The Tigers jumped out to a 6-2 advantage
    • However, OC followed with a 7-0 run to gain the lead
    • The teams battled through to ties from 11-15
    • ECU then went up 18-15
    • The Eagles countered with a 10-1 run in the final part of the set
  • Set 3: 10-25
    • The teams traded the first four serves
    • OC then used a 13-3 run to take control of the set
