Volleyball Sweeps at Home Against UAM

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team hosted the University of Arkansas at Monticello for a home GAC match, sweeping the Cotton Blossoms (25-22, 25-17, 25-18). ECU improves to 5-5 in conference play.

"I am very proud of their performance tonight," Head Coach Cheri Lindsay said. "It was awesome to see them play together and work as a team."

The opening set saw both teams going back and forth until a 9-2 scoring run put the Tigers ahead 14-8. However, UAM answered by taking the next eight out of ten points to tie the game 16-all. The teams traded points before a 5-0 scoring run had ECU at match point 24-19. The Cotton Blossoms refused to go down without a fight earning three straight points, but the Tigers closed set one 25-22.

UAM was the first to score in the second set and push their way to a 12-9 lead. ECU responded with a 7-0 run to pull ahead 16-12 and would continue their drive for the rest of the set. Up 20-16, the Tigers would go on a 5-1 scoring run to finish set two 25-17.

With two set wins in their corner, ECU came out firing in set three taking a dominant 11-1 lead. UAM slowly cut the deficit to 16-22, but the Cotton Blossoms were unable to match the offense of the Tigers and ECU would secure the third set 25-18 and a 3-0 win on the match.

Kemyra Landry was next with five kills while also adding four total blocks in the game. Leah Lawson earned a double-double on the night with 29 assists and 10 digs.
