Soccer Fights to 0-0 Draw

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team hosted the first of their three-game home stretch, drawing with Oklahoma Baptist University 0-0. ECU is now 3-5-3 in GAC play.

"I'm proud of our ladies and the way they fought today," Head Coach Riley Bailey said. "Our defending was terrific and kept us in the entire game. We created some quality chances and just couldn't finish the final ball."

OBU outshot ECU 16-4 in the 90-minute match with 11 of those on goal for the Bisons compared to two for the Tigers.

Baylee Metcalfe opened up the shooting for the Tigers less than a minute into the opening half, but it was saved by the OBU keeper. The Bisons answered back with three shots, two of which were denied by McKenna Leveling as the Tigers kept it scoreless. Tanja Bauboeck took one more shot for ECU at the 35:10-minute mark. Unable to find the back of the net, the game would remain 0-0 heading into halftime.

The Bisons came out attacking in the second half, taking five shots in 12 minutes of play before Abbie Morris was able to find an opportunity. However, a save from the OBU goalkeeper shut down a potential ECU lead. The Bisons would again have five more chances to score, but ECU's defense held strong to preserve the tie. Abbie Morris' attempt at a game-winning goal was off target in the 86th minute, and the Bisons had one last chance of their own. Their shot on goal hit the crossbar, came back down, and was headed into the back of the net for what looked like a Bison goal. Fortunately for ECU, the OBU goal was discounted, and the match ended in a draw.

McKenna Leveling had 10 saves in the contest, a new season high for the sophomore.

The East Central University soccer team will be back at Tiger Soccer Field Thursday, Oct. 27 to face Ouachita Baptist University at 2 p.m.
