ECU XC Sweeps GAC Runners of the Week

RUSSELVILLE, Ark. – For the third consecutive time, a runner from the East Central University men's and women's cross country team has been named the GAC Runner of the Week after competing in a race. This week, it is Oliver Kiptoo and Abigael Kemboi.
 
Oliver Kiptoo became the new school record holder for the men's 8k with a time of 23:48.1 at the DBU Old Glory Gallop in Dallas, TX. Teammate Amos Pkiach set the previous record just two weeks prior at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas with a time of 24:06.2. Kiptoo is the first Tiger to break the 24-minute barrier in an 8k race. This is Kiptoo's first career GAC Runner of the Week honor.
 
Abigael Kemboi led the Tigers at the DBU Old Glory Gallop with a fourth-place individual finish with a time of 17:58.4. Kemboi was the fastest Great American Conference runner at the meet. She helped ECU finish eighth overall. This is Kemboi's third GAC Runner of the Week honor this season.
 
The East Central University men and women's cross country teams will prepare for the 2022 Great American Conference Championships in Shawnee, Oklahoma Saturday, November 5.
