Men’s Cross Country Moves Up in Rankings

NEW ORLEANS – The East University men's cross country team made a huge jump in the 2022 NCAA DII U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, moving to No. 2 in the Central Region and No. 13 in the National Coaches' Poll following their impressive performance at the DBU Old Glory Gallop meet on Oct. 15.
 
The Tigers placed second and had four runners finish in the top-ten – Oliver Kiptoo, Amos Pkiach, Melvin Kipkemboi, and Micheal Iyali. Kiptoo led the team at the race clocking the fastest 8k time in ECU school history, 23:48.1. He placed second individually out of 157 runners while Pkiach was close behind in third with a time of 24:07.5. Kipkemboi and Iyali finished seventh and ninth with times of 24:32.9 and 24:48.0, respectively.
 
ECU men's team has its best regional ranking since 2016, leapfrogging five spots from No. 7 to No. 2 in the Central Region.
 
With the Tigers best showing of the season at the DBU Old Glory Gallop, the men's team soared to No. 13 in the National Coaches' Poll for its first ranking since 2016.
 
The East Central University men's cross country team will prepare for the 2022 Great American Conference Championships in Shawnee, Oklahoma Saturday, November 5.
