SEARCY, Ark. – The East Central University women's soccer team traveled to Searcy, Arkansas for the start of a four-match road swing, defeating the Harding University Bisons 3-0. ECU improves 2-3-1 in conference play.
"It was a solid team win," Head Coach
Riley Bailey said. "We made some adjustments at half and the ladies came out on fire to put away the goals to take control. I'm proud of everyone's effort tonight."
Looking to be the first one on the board, ECU opened up the half taking six shots compared to two by HU.
Abbie Morris,
Alexis Perez,
Olivia Witte, and
Claudia Garcia would each attempt their own shots, but nothing could find the back of the net. Despite the Tigers' effort to score, the game remained 0-0 going into halftime.
The Tigers took the first shot again in the second half at the 47:55 minute mark, but this time
Paige Jones was able to net her first goal of the season off an assist from
Kaylee Bruce to put the Tigers up 1-0. Less than a minute later,
Olivia Witte found her opportunity to score a goal off another assist by Bruce to quickly double the lead 2-0. ECU would attack three more times before
Alexis Perez's goal off the corner kick from
Jocelyn Caracheo pushed the Tigers lead 3-0. Harding would take five shots in the last 25 minutes of play, but two saves by
McKenna Leveling and three shots off target, ECU came out on top 3-0.
The East Central University women's soccer team will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 9 when they take on Ouachita Baptist University at 12 p.m.
