Women’s Basketball Season Closes at GAC Quarterfinals

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University women's basketball team saw the 2021-22 season come to an end with a 79-66 loss in the quarterfinals of the Great American Conference Championship Tournament at Fire Lake Arena.

Scoring
  • 1st Quarter: 11-13
    • The Tigers (15-12, 12-10 GAC) opened the game on a 7-0 run, in the first 1:30
    • The Reddies (19-10, 13-9 GAC) then went on a 13-0 run of their own, until two minutes remained to gain the lead
    • ECU hit the final two points of the stanza to cut the deficit to two
  • 2nd Quarter: 25-19 (36-32)
    • HSU got the first points of the stanza, but the Tigers fought back with a 4-0 run to get within one, with nine minutes remaining
    • ECU continued to push the tempo and the run to 10-2 to take a 21-18 lead, with 7:30 left in the half
    • The game was quickly knotted at 21 then 23
    • The Tigers then used a 5-0 run to push the advantage to five (28-23)
    • The Reddies followed with a 9-0 run in the next two minutes to own a four-point lead (28-32)
    • ECU finished out the scoring in the half, using an 8-0 run in the final 2:30
  • 3rd Quarter: 18-23 (54-56)
    • The teams battled through the first four minutes, with the Tigers holding the lead around seven
    • HSU then pushed back and went on an 11-2 run to gain a 49-48 advantage, with 4:15 remaining
    • The lead continued to toggle back-and-forth for the rest of the quarter
  • 4th Quarter:
    • The Reddies took control at the start of the quarter and went on a 7-1 run in the first two minutes to push the lead to eight
    • ECU countered with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 65, half way through the stanza
    • HSU made the final push of the game, going on an 11-0 run in the next 2:30 minutes to push the lead to double-digits
