Volleyball Heads to Angelo State to Open 2022 Season
ADA, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team is set to make their 2022 season debut tomorrow at the 14
th Annual Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, hosted by Angelo State, Aug. 26-27.
The Tigers will first face Texas A&M University-Kingsville Friday, Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. and then battle New Mexico Highlands University at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 27, ECU will take on Colorado State University Pueblo at 10:00 a.m. and will end the night playing the host team, Angelo State, at 6:00 pm.
In 2021, East Central University had a record setting season under the leadership of Head Coach
Cheri Lindsay. The Tigers claimed their first winning season in school history, going 15-14 overall and 11-5 in the Great American Conference. This was also a season high for wins in a single season which included a nine-match winning streak. The Tigers are looking to have a strong showing at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational.
ECU returns twelve players from last year's team that finished ranked No. 5 in the GAC standings. The Tigers are led by three returning All-GAC Second Team members – RSr.
Alejandra Delgado, RSr.
Thalianette Garcia, and So.
Emma Strickland. Delgado led the GAC in digs having a total of 627. Garcia tallied 30 service aces, 295 digs, and is just the second Tiger in GAC history to claim back-to-back Second Team honors. Strickland's 2.90 kills per set ranks her No. 8 on the 2021 GAC season list. Garcia and Strickland are tied for the most kills on the season with 292. Four newcomers complete the roster this year.
