Soccer Battles Midwestern State Before Falling 2-1

Wichita Falls, TX – The East Central University women's soccer team had their last preseason matchup on Sunday against Midwestern State University, falling 2-1.

"It was a hard-fought match against a strong MSU side," said Head Coach Riley Bailey. "We played good soccer and were able to withstand their offensive push for most of the game. We just ran out of gas in the last minute and could not close it out."

MSU outshot ECU seven to zero in the opening half. Despite the Mustangs effort to score, the Tigers would hold them off going into halftime at 0-0.

The Tigers got more offensive in the second half with five total shots including three on goal. Kaylee Bruce was the first to take a shot followed by Olivia Witte. After not finding success the first time, Bruce took her second shot in the 68th minute and found the back of the net off a dual assist from Paige Jones and Abbie Morris to take the lead 1-0.

Jocelyn Caracheo put up a shot on goal at the 77th-minute minute mark to try and increase the lead, but the Mustangs came up with a save. MSU answered back two minutes later with a connection to the net to tie it up 1-1. In the last minute of play, MSU made the winning goal for the 2-1 victory as time ran out before ECU could fight back.

The East Central University women's soccer team moves on to compete in their first Great American Conference game of the 2022 season. The Tigers will play Southern Nazarene University on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in Bethany, Oklahoma.
