SEARCY, AR – The East Central University volleyball team traveled to Searcy, Arkansas to compete in the Harding University Invitational, sweeping LeMoyne-Owen 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-10) in the first matchup of the tournament.
"The girls played very disciplined and had a great time," Head Coach
Cheri Lindsay said.
The Tigers had the advantage offensively and defensively with a .215 team hitting percentage and 50 total digs while the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians had a -.131 hitting percentage and a total of 35 digs.
ECU took the early lead in the first set and never looked back to settle the score 25-16. The Tigers cruised through set two with a 10-0 scoring run, establishing a 13-2 lead. With a few more scoring runs, ECU secured the set 25-10. The Tigers would continue to have a dominant lead in the third set sitting comfortably at 18-10. ECU finalized the sweep over LeMoyne-Owen with a 7-0 run to win the game 25-10.
Emma Strickland led the Tigers in kills with 8 while
Seran Eran,
Jada Abercrombie and
Kemyra Landry each had 6 kills.
Leah Lawson and
Lisa Gonzalez split time setting with Lawson recording 18 assists and Gonzalez recording 17.
Alejandra Delgado led the team in digs with 15 and newcomer
Macey McAmis tallied 10 of her own.
The East Central University volleyball team will finish out the Harding University Invitational with two matches Friday, Sept. 9. The Tigers will play William Jewell College at 9 a.m. and then the University of Alabama in Huntsville at 1 p.m.
