Football Rolls Past Northwestern in Alva, 42-7

ALVA, Okla.Jaiave Magalei threw four touchdown passes, three in the second quarter alone, and the East Central University Tigers football team coasted to a 42-7 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Ranger Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
The win lifts ECU to 3-4 on the season as the team eagerly looks ahead to their Saturday matchup against Southern Nazarene University at 2 pm in Ada.
 
ECU seized the lead in the opening quarter, orchestrating a touchdown drive on their first possession. The five-play drive was sparked by Magalei's 36-yard pass to Isaiah Willhoite, setting the stage for a 15-yard touchdown pass to C.J. Moore. After Tommy Yousey successfully converted the PAT, the Tigers led 7-0 early.
 
ECU punted on their next two possessions before taking command of the game with an impressive 28-point second quarter. The scoring run began with C.J. Moore's second touchdown of the game when he capped off the Tigers' last drive to open the second quarter with a seven-yard touchdown pass.
 
On the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers pinned the Rangers on their own one-yard line. From there, the defense went to work, forcing the Rangers into a three-and-out and a punt from deep in their end zone. After a short kick, ECU took over at the Northwestern 24-yard line. The Tigers stuck quickly with Magalei finding Hayden Stewart in the end zone for a short seven-yard touchdown to extend their lead to 21-0. ECU's defense got in on the scoring as Darian William came up big by intercepting Northwestern's first play of the subsequent drive and returning it for a 16-yard touchdown to give the Tigers a 28-0 edge. To cap off the big second quarter, Dior Scott joined the scoring parade with a 20-yard pass completion, resulting in yet another touchdown that expanded ECU's lead to 35-0.
 
The Rangers tried answering back on their next drive with a 35-yard rush that eventually brought them to the ECU two-yard line, but the Tiger defense held off the Rangers to keep them off the board heading into halftime.
 
The third quarter was a defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless during the 15 minutes.
 
ECU made a return to the scoreboard following a 10-play drive that was highlighted by a 30-yard gain from Damuriyon Montgomery before ending it with a six-yard touchdown run to lead 42-0.
 
On the final drive of the game, Northwestern managed to secure their first and only touchdown, but the Tigers walked away with a resounding 42-7 victory.
 
Jaiave Magalei had an impressive passing performance as he completed 19-of-24 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
 
Damuriyon Montgomery had his biggest rushing outing of the season, picking up 89 yards and one touchdown.
 
C.J. Moore exploded for two touchdowns and would finish the day with five carries for 38 yards as ECU piled up 405 yards of total offense.
 
The Tiger defense limited the Rangers to 215 total offense with Devon Roush leading all tacklers with nine stops, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
 
Darian Williams, Tavare Smith Jr., and Gio Waller all picked up an interception as well.
