Soccer Drops Road Test to Bison

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team fell on the road, dropping a contest to Oklahoma Baptist University in Great American Conference action on Wednesday night at the OBU Soccer Complex.

ECU falls to 1-3-3 in conference play while OBU moves to 4-2-2.

The Tigers were unable to gain any traction on offense while the Bisons capitalized, scoring one goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over ECU.

Lorianne Baugh had the opportunity to draw first blood with the first shot on target for either squad in the match, but the OBU keeper was able to make the jumping save to keep ECU off the scoreboard.

After a scoreless first 40 minutes, it appeared as though both teams would carry a neutral score into the break, but a boost from the Bison bench in the 40th minute would lead to the opening goal of the contest.

Despite some chances in the second half, both defenses stood strong for the majority of the period.

The Tigers responded with two shots in the first ten minutes of the second period but could not convert for the equalizer. In the 75th minute, OBU would add to its lead with a long strike that managed to find its way to the back of the net.

ECU battled to get back into the contest, registering two late shots by Lorianne Baugh and Paige Jones, but a pair of OBU keeper saves settled the match 2-0 in favor of the Bisons.

The Bisons had the advantage in shots and shots on goal over the Tigers, outshooting ECU 14-9 in total and 5-4 in frame.

The ECU soccer team will return to Ada to face Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 am. Before the contest, the Tigers will honor seniors Madelyn Bird, Isabella Lopez, Madison Hays, Lorianne Baugh, Claudia Garcia, and Tanja Bauboeck.
