WEATHERFORD, Okla. – After going to five sets with Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Ada a month ago, the East Central University volleyball team could not gain control on the road, falling 3-0 during Great American Conference play Thursday night at Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
With the result, ECU drops to 6-6 in conference play.
After SWOSU took the opening set 25-12, the Tigers put up a much better fight in the next two frames.
ECU jumped out to a 7-4 lead before SWOSU went on a pair of scoring runs to pull away 15-11. But four straight points from the Tigers put ECU back in the game, eventually tying the score 19-19. However, a four-point run by SWOSU gave them the push they needed to close out the set 25-21.
Set three was similar to set two in that the Tigers started out strong, leading 8-2 before the Bulldogs flipped the script to surge ahead 16-11. ECU battled back to trail within three late in the set, but SWOSU maintained their control, securing the set with a 25-20 final score.
The Tigers were held to a negative hitting percentage for the first time this season.
On defense,
Sydney Roshek collected a team-high 26 digs while
Angel Nahinu had four total blocks.
The ECU volleyball team will return to Ada for a home GAC matchup against Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 7 pm.
