Limatukei Earns All-Region, Women’s Cross Country Finish 12th at Regionals
JOPLIN, Mo. – The East Central University women's cross country team concluded their 2023 season with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Central Region Championships in Joplin, Missouri Saturday morning at Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course.
Results
With 31 teams competing, the Tigers amassed a total of 316 points and finished first among Great American Conference schools in attendance.
"The girls ran well," Head Coach
Steve Sawyer said. "We set a goal for the top 10 and almost got there. I am happy for Naomy who pushed through a rough last half of the race to hold on for All-Region."
In the women's 6k,
Naomy Limatukei led the Tigers with a 25th-place finish, clocking in a time of 21:40.19, which secured her an All-Region honor.
Aurelia Jepkorir crossed the finish line in 39
th place with a time of 21:57.42 while
Sheilah Cheruiyot followed closely behind in 45
th completing the course in 22:07.00.
Abigael Kemboi came in 76
th (22:38.25),
Sharon Jesang placed 132
nd (23:35.56), and
Madison Ham rounded off the Tigers performance in 159
th (24:17.06).
The ECU women's cross country team showcased steady progress throughout the season, achieving a Great American Conference Championship and displaying a strong showing at the Central Region Championships.
