ADA, Okla. – The ECU baseball team was in action Saturday, dropping a double header to UAM on a cold day at Ken Turner Field.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the second inning when
Nick Blankenship was hit by a pitch, stole second, and continued to third on a throwing error. Shortly after, a balk call on UAM plated Blankenship for the first run of the game.
ECU starting pitcher
Bryan Terry had a strong outing and cruised through the early innings before giving up a solo home run in the fourth that tied the game 1-1.
The Tigers answered in the bottom of the frame by manufacturing a run.
Tanner Collins led off with a single, followed by another single by Blankenship before
Kyle Busker's sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position.
Mason Glowacki then dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Collins, putting ECU up 2-0.
UAM was able to scratch a run in the sixth, putting together 2 hits to even the score at 2 all.
The game stayed tied heading into the final innings, but UAM was able to break the game open with three runs in the eighth and four in the ninth to win by a final of 9-2.
Terry took the loss on the mound, going 7 2/3 innings while giving up 10 hits with 7 strikeouts.
ECU was led at the plate by
Nolan Herchock and
Nick Blankenship with two hits each, while
Tanner Collins and
Britton Sperry had one.
Mason Glowacki added an RBI for the Tigers.
Game 2
In the series finale, the Tiger offense was not able to get anything going and eventually dropped the contest by a final of 9-0.
The game was close in the early frames, with ECU starter Sizemore giving up a run in the second and two unearned runs in the fourth.
The game got away from the Tigers in the fifth when UAM sent 10 hitters to the plate with 5 walks and two doubles doing the damage.
UAM added a single run in the 7
th inning to complete the scoring and the win.
Drake Sizemore was the losing pitcher, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up 6 runs on 2 hits, and walking 8 with 4 strikeouts. ECU reliever Jackson allowed a run before
Ian Mason came in to throw the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 2.
Gage Boatman and
Mason Glowacki singled for the Tigers.
ECU will be back in action Monday, Feb. 20 for a makeup doubleheader against Randall University at Ken Turner Field starting at 12 p.m.
