Softball Drops Game One

ADA, Okla. – The East Central University softball team hosted Oklahoma Baptist University for a three-game GAC series, dropping the series opener 11-2 in wild, windy conditions at Tiger Field.

ECU opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first when Megan Lesko solo homered into left-center for the early 1-0 lead.

Both teams were slow to get the bats going as OBU had one hit after two and a half innings while ECU had two hits and one run. However, an explosive third inning from the Bisons would change that.

The Tigers simply could not get out of the tough third innings as the Bisons collected all nine runs on eight hits and two outs to unravel the game with a 9-1 lead.

OBU would go on to add one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to reach a double-digit lead of 11-1.

The Tigers got a run back in the home half of the fifth after Megan Lesko singled home Josi Goodman, but after trailing by nine runs, the deficit proved to be too much, and OBU would walk away with an 11-2 game-one win.

Taryn O'Brien took the loss on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits.

Taia Harris came in relief, going 1.1 innings and allowing three runs on four hits, while Hailey Martinez gave up one run on two hits in her one inning outing.

Megan Lesko picked up two hits, while Elyse LeClair, Rachelle Mengwasser, Vanessa Tamayo, and Josi Goodman each had one.

The East Central University softball team will finish the series with a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist starting at 1 p.m.
