ADA, Okla. - The ECU Baseball Team dropped a doubleheader to conference opponent Southern Nazarene University Saturday afternoon at Ken Turner Field.
Game 1
In game one, there was not much offense on either side as the game was scoreless through three innings. Although ECU had some traffic on the base paths in the first and second innings, they were unable to capitalize.Â
SNU broke through for a single run in the fourth off ECU starting pitcher
Bryan Terry. Terry hit the leadoff batter and gave up a double to put two men in scoring position. A sacrifice fly plated the run, but Terry got out of the jam when he picked off the runner at second and got a strikeout. Â
In the fifth, Terry was victimized by another hit batter that came around to score on a double. The Storm got another RBI single to go up 3-0, but Terry worked his way out of the jam to keep the game in reach.Â
ECU had a promising rally in the fifth when
Christian Whitaker led off with a single, followed by another single by
Mason Glowacki. Whitaker advanced to third on the play, so the Tigers had runners at first and third with no outs. However, SNU was able to coax a double play and fly out to snuff out the threat. Â
In the sixth inning, the Storm put up four runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits with one Tiger error.
Colt Bartling came in relief to get the final out and strand the bases loaded with the score 7-0. Â
ECU came out swinging in the bottom of the seventh as Whitaker doubled, followed by a Glowacki bunt single. With runners on the corners,
Nolan Herchock doubled to drive in Whitaker.Â
Duncan Key scored Glowacki from third on an RBI groundout, and
Dawerlyn Amancio slammed another double to drive in Herchock, and suddenly the Tigers were back in the game at 7-3.Â
The top of the eighth proved to be the Tigers' undoing as SNU scored six runs on five hits to go along with three Tiger walks to seal the game with a final score of 14-3.Â
Brian Terry took the loss on the mound going 5 â…” innings, giving up 7 runs, 4 earned, on 10 hits with 2 walks, 2 hit batters, and 6 strikeouts.Â
Cayden Blanton, Cole Bartling,
Clayton Solomon, and
Jarod Leroux also saw action on the mound for the Tigers. Â
At the plate, ECU was led by Whitaker and Glowacki with two hits each, while Amancio, Hershock, and
Michael Rosario all had a double in the game.Â
Tanner Collins had the other Tiger hit. Â

Game 2
In game two, the Tigers looked good in the early going as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a big second inning.Â
With one out,
Carson Thomas worked a walk before both
Michael Rosario and
Kyle Busker were hit by pitches.
Mason Glowacki delivered a 2 RBI single, and
Nick Blankenship became the third Tiger hitter of the inning to be plunked to load the bases once again.
Duncan Key plated Busker and Glowacki with a single, with Blankenship moving to third. Key and Blankenship then pulled off a double steal, followed by an RBI double by
Dawerlyn Amancio, and the Tigers were up 6-0.Â
ECU starter Drake Sizemore ran into trouble in the third as the Storm put together three hits and three walks to go along with a hit batter to score four before
Carson Thomas came in to get the final out to keep the Tiger lead at 6-4.Â
ECU threatened in the bottom of the third but failed to score. The Storm stayed hot and put together another big inning in the fourth, sending nine hitters to the plate and scoring four more runs on five singles for the 8-6 lead. Â
SNU managed one more run in the final innings, and ECU just couldn't get a rally going as the Storm came away with the 9-6 win. Â
Duncan Key led the Tiger offense with two hits and two RBI's.Â
Kyle Busker also had two hits, while
Mason Glowacki had a hit and 2 RBI's.
Dawerlyn Amancio rounded out the attack with a hit and RBI. Â
Drake Sizemore went 2 â…” innings on the mound, giving up four runs on four hits with four strikeouts, three walks and two hit batters for a no-decision.Â
Carson Thomas took the loss in relief, going 4 â…“ while giving up 5 runs, 8 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 5. Â
The Tigers will look to salvage the series on Sunday in the series finale at Ken Turner field at 1 p.m.
