ADA, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team hosted Arkansas Tech University in the GAC three-game series home opener, falling 11-1 to the Wonder Boys at Ken Turner Field.
After one scoreless inning, Arkansas Tech would be the first to reach the score column with a solo homer to take a 1-0 lead.
However, the Wonder Boy's bats quickly heated up as they tallied four runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth to propel their lead to 10-0 while ECU struggled to gain some offensive momentum.
Avoiding the run rule, the Tigers found the board in the sixth inning after
Christian Whitaker blasted one over left field, cutting ATU's lead down to nine at 10-1.
The Wonder Boys, though, managed to tack on one final run in the seventh inning and ATU ended up with the 11-1 game one win.
Ian Mason took the loss, throwing 3.2 innings and giving up nine runs on 10 hits. Jared Leroux threw in relief, going 3.1 innings while allowing two runs on five hits.
Britton Sperry picked up two hits, while
Christian Whitaker and
Dawerlyn Amancio had one.
The East Central University baseball team will finish the series in a doubleheader at Ken Turner Field on Saturday, April 15, starting at 1 p.m.
