Softball Drops Series Opener on the Road

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The East Central University softball team headed to Arkansas Tech for a GAC road series, falling 4-0 to the Golden Suns at Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.

The teams combined for just eight hits in the game, with ATU and ECU having four apiece.

Arkansas Tech kicked off the scoring in the first inning after a leadoff walk eventually made it around across home plate for a 1-0 lead.

Nine out of ten Tiger batters were retired over the next three frames, with only Elyse LeClair reaching a base after hitting a single to right field.

The fifth inning proved to be the difference in the game as the Golden Suns extended their lead to 4-0 after tacking on three runs on two hits and one Tiger error.

ECU kept ATU off the scoreboard in the next inning, but unable to get their bats going, the Tigers would end up falling 4-0 to begin the weekend road series.

Taryn O'Brien took the loss, pitching a complete game, allowing four runs, only two of which were earned, and striking out two batters.

The four hits in the game were scattered between Elyse LeClair, Gabi Quintanilla, Rachelle Mengwasser, and Vanessa Tamayo.

The East Central University softball team will wrap up the series with a doubleheader tomorrow, April 15, starting at 10:30 a.m.
