Kiprob and Kiptoo Break ECU Record at Friends University Invitational
WICHITA, Kans. – The East Central University men's and women's track & field teams had a strong showing at the Friends University Invitational in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, clinching two new ECU records as well as setting many personal and season-bests.
Friends University Invitational Results
Both the men's and women's teams had four athletes placed in the top ten of their respective events.
Highlighting the Tigers on the men's side include
Aspel Kiprob and
Oliver Kiptoo, who had a 1-2 finish in the 5000 meter run. Kiprob claimed first place with a time of 14:13.94, while Kiptoo was close behind in second place with a time of 14:17.45. Not only did their times set an ECU record in the 5000 meter run, surpassing cross country / track alum and Olympian Juan Pacheco, but it also sits at No. 7 and No. 12 in all of NCAA Division 2.
Matthew Norton also represented the Tigers well in the 5000 meter run crossing the line at 15:06.32 for an eighth-place finish, a new season and personal best in the event. Jordan Garcia also set a new best with a time of 15:50.18.
Other Tiger to set a season and personal best time include Jordan Garcia, who placed 24
th in 5000 meter run with a time of 15:50.18.
On the fielding events,
Peyton Holland led ECU in the shot put, finishing fifth overall with a 14.52m throw, just 0.55m shy of an ECU record.
Highlighting the Tigers on the women's side was
Aurelia Jepkorir, who placed third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:03.05.
Teammates
Abigael Kemboi and
Madison Ham both set personal records in the 5000 meter run with a fourth and seventh-place finish crossing the line at the 18:26.26 and 19:15.20 mark, respectively.
In the 1500 meter run, Kemboi also finished fourth with a time of 4:53.87, while Ham came in ninth at 5:06.67.
Emisela Martines also set a personal best time of 5:38.32 to place 40
th.
The East Central University men's and women's track and field teams will return to action on April 8 at the KT Woodman Invite in Wichita, Kansas.
