RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the results of its preseason coaches' poll, and the East Central University women's cross country team has been picked to finish fifth for the 2023 season, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

"Just like the men, we have work to do to move up the ladder," head coach Steve Sawyer said. "The talent on this team is one of the best I have had. We just need to put pen to paper and hit some high marks this season to represent well within the conference."

Returning GAC champions, Ouachita Baptist, was voted to enter the fall as the favorite after receiving all 11 available first-place votes.

ECU only returns four runners from the 2022 roster, with two having earned All-GAC honors at the GAC Championships. Abigael Kemboi placed fifth and earned a spot on the All-GAC First Team list while Sharon Jesang finished 14th to land on the All-GAC Second Team.

The East Central University women's cross country team will open the 2023 season on Thursday, Aug. 31 at the Rogers State University Meet in Claremore, Oklahoma.
