SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma for a Great American Conference matchup against Oklahoma Baptist University. Unfortunately, the Tigers faced a tough challenge and ended up losing the match in three sets.
Set one began with the Bisons taking control and maintaining a consistent lead throughout the set as the Tigers found themselves trailing by as much as nine points with the score at 21-12. ECU went on a late scoring run to close the gap 22-17, but their efforts were too little, too late, and OBU managed to close out the set with a final score of 25-18.
The second set saw the Tigers once again fighting from behind. Although they traded the first few points with each other, it was another battle to gain the upper hand. ECU pushed to get within two points at 17-15, raising hopes of a comeback, but OBU delivered six unanswered points to solidify their control of the set to take it 25-17.
Set three continued to be a challenge for the Tigers, with the Bisons jumping out to an early 8-2 lead before eventually extending it to 20-13. While ECU took some good swings to pick up some kills in the final stretch, their efforts were not enough to spar a comeback, and the Bisons would secure the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Odalys Gonzalez notched her fourth career double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Julia Kabala dished out 28 assists and two service aces while
Sydney Roshek added 14 digs in the back row.
ECU will be back on the road next week with a rivalry matchup against Southeastern State University on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7 pm in Durant, Oklahoma.
