Football Braces for Home Opener Against SAU
ADA, Okla. – The East Central University football team returns to Koi
Ishto Stadium for the first time this season as the Tigers gear up for their home opener against Southern Arkansas University on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6 pm.
The Tigers enter week two following a tough 41-13 loss to Henderson State University. ECU seeks its first win of the season against a 1-0 SAU team.
"Coming off of last week and into a new opportunity this week, we wanted to focus solely on East Central," Interim Head Coach John
Litrenta said. "We have to eliminate the costly penalties and beating ourselves. The little things will ultimately take care of the big things. I'm excited to see our young men respond Thursday night at home in front of our campus and community."
The Tigers and
Muleriders meet for the 24
th time on the gridiron since 1953. While SAU has a history of success against ECU, the Tigers have handled the
Muleriders in recent meetings, including a 34-22 victory in Magnolia last season.
The
Muleriders enter the second week following a 34-19 thumping over the Southeastern Savage Storm.
ECU's defense will be challenged by an SAU offense that totaled 358 yards in 82 plays week one while their defense held the Savage Storm to just 49 yards rushing on 28 attempts.
The ECU offense will look to build off last week's outing which was led by junior quarterback
Traair Edwards, who finished 19 of 27 passes for 194 yards in his debut game as a Tiger.
