Women’s Basketball Tripped Up at Henderson

ARKADELLPHIA, Ark. – The East Central University women's basketball team struggled to ignite a spark against Henderson State University, ultimately falling 63-48 on Saturday afternoon to conclude the back end of their Arkansas road trip.

In the game's first minutes of action, both teams traded baskets, resulting in four lead changes with Henderson State holding a slight 7-6 edge midway through. But the Tigers experienced a scoring drought while the Reddies gained momentum, going on a 9-2 run to close out the opening quarter with a 16-8 advantage.

The Tigers would use an 8-5 run at the start of the second period to cut the deficit down to five points with 6:47 left to play in the half. Despite ECU holding Henderson to their lowest shooting percentage, the Reddies managed to maintain control, leading 30-22 at halftime.

The third quarter witnessed a back-and-forth battle, with both teams matching each other scoring 16 points each, keeping the Tigers trailing by eight points (46-38) heading into the final stanza.

Henderson stayed ahead during the last 10 minutes of the game, outscoring ECU 17-10 to seal the 63-48 victory.

Jayden Weiberg led the scoring for ECU with 13 points, draining all four of the Tigers' three-pointers in the contest.

Mackenzie Crusoe was next with 10 points, while Kate Ogle picked up eight points and a team-high eight rebounds in the effort.

The ECU women's basketball team will return to Ada to host Chickasaw Appreciation Night against rivals Southeastern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 5:30 pm.
