Soccer Falls First Conference Road Match

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Oklahoma Baptist University on Wednesday night at the OBU Soccer Complex, bringing their conference record to 0-2-1.

ECU came out aggressive, taking five of their six first-half shots in the opening 13 minutes. However, only Abbie Morris' attempt was on target and it was saved by the OBU goalkeeper.

Though the Bison were slower to mount their offense, they broke open the scoring with a header from a corner kick in the 19th minute for the 1-0 lead. Addisyn Brown would take the Tigers' only other shot of the half, but it missed the mark. Meanwhile, OBU put two more shots on goal, both of which were saved by ECU's goalkeeper Madison Mayhall, keeping the score 1-0 at halftime.

After the break, ECU fired the first shots once again with Kaylee Bruce and Abbie Morris trying to connect for the equalizer, but both were stopped. OBU doubled their lead in the 63rd minute with another header into the back of the net and made it 3-0 just 14 minutes later, taking full control of the game.

Emily Green and Addisyn Brown made last attempts to narrow the gap but were unsuccessful while the Bison sealed the win with their final goal in the 78th minute for the 4-0 shutout win.

OBU outshot ECU 14-10 overall in the match and 8-3 on goal, as ECU struggled to find their offensive stride against OBU's solid defense.

The ECU soccer team will return to Ada and prepare for their next GAC matchup against Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 12 pm.
