Volleyball Faces Setback in Non-Conference Matchup

EDMOND, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team faced off against Oklahoma Christian University in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night, but ultimately faltered for the second straight game as they fell decisively in a 3-0 sweep (23-25, 19-25, 17-25).

Despite battling injuries, the Tigers are striving for consistency on the court.

Set one saw both teams exchanging scoring runs, with the lead switching back and forth until they were tied at 21-all. OC scored three consecutive points to reach match point, and ECU narrowed the gap to 24-23, but a final kill by the Eagles secured the set one win.

In set two, the Tigers held a brief lead, but the Eagles quickly responded, breaking away with a 10-5 advantage. ECU closed the gap to within two points at 18-16, but OC maintained control, eventually closing out the set 25-19.

The Tigers entered the third set with hopes of extending the match, but the Eagles dominated early racing to a 17-4 lead. Although ECU went on a late scoring run, the deficit proved too much as OC completed the sweep.

Emma Strickland led with eight kills while Ashleigh Miller and Angel Nahinu contributed six kills apiece and Julia Kabala tallied 23 assists.

The ECU volleyball team will shift their focus back to GAC play as they prepare to host Southern Arkansas University on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 6 pm.
