Cross Country Claims Team Title at Old Glory Gallop
DALLAS, Texas – The East Central University cross country team traveled south for the Third Annual Old Glory Gallop in their third meet of the 2024 season. The Tigers had strong showings, with the women's team finishing seventh overall out of 46 teams while the men's team celebrated back-to-back titles with a first-place finish out of 41 teams.

Rice University, Cal Poly Pomona, and Dallas Baptist University were the top finishers in the women's race while No. 8 ECU, Cal Poly Pomona, and Western New Mexico rounded out the podium positions on the men's side. The Tigers notched 37 points to claim the top spot.
While the Tigers were nearly perfect at last year's DBU Old Glory Gallop with a 1-2-3-4-6 finish, No. 8 ECU once again showcased their dominance, with all five scoring runners finishing within the top 15.
Peter Kipkemboi led the men's team with a third-place finish, clocking in at 23:57. He was closely followed by
Paul Korir and
Brian Mitei, who secured fourth and fifth places with times of 24:11 and 24:12, respectively.
Amos Pkiach crossed the line in 12th with a time of 24:31, while
Oliver Kiptoo was right behind in 13th with a time of 24:33.
On the women's side,
Naomy Limatukei led the squad with a 14th place finish clocking in a time of 17:52.
Aurelia Jepkorir narrowly missed a top-20 finish, taking 21
st in 18:09. Rounding out the scoring runners for the Tigers were
Carolyne Kimaiyo,
Brenda Jepkoech, and
Damaris Chewon who finished 54th (18:42), 69th (18:55), and 72nd (19:00), respectively.
The ECU cross country team is now gearing up for the Great American Conference Championships, set for Saturday, Oct. 26. The Tigers are especially excited to host the championships at Oak Hills Golf & Country Club in Ada.
