ADA, Okla. – The East Central University softball team went 1-1 during their opening day of the Raising Cane's Softball Festival in Edmond, Oklahoma, defeating the University of Nebraska at Kearney 3-2, courtesy of
Jami Watson's walk-off double, before falling 7-1 to nationally ranked University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday afternoon at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.
The Tigers are now 6-5 on the season.
Nebraska-Kearney, who had been leading by one run since the third inning, managed to add one more run in the top of the seventh to hold a 2-0 lead heading into the home half.
McKinley Feazle led off with a single and was later brought home on a
Caton Muncy sacrifice fly to put the Tigers on the board at 2-1. With bases loaded and two outs,
Jami Watson then doubled to left field to drive in
Jaicee Stott and
Josi Goodman, ending the game 3-2.
Taryn O'Brien picked up the win after relieving
Lauren HerrNeckar who tossed 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on 10 hits while striking out four.
McKinley Feazle led at the plate going 2-for-3 while
Megan Lesko and
Jami Watson collected one hit.
In game two, the Tigers were faced with the challenge of taking on No. 11 UCO.
After a scoreless first inning, shutting down the Bronchos three up and three down, UCO's bats came alive in the following frame, scoring five runs on four hits that ultimately put ECU in a hole they could not claw their way out of.
Caton Muncy drove in the Tigers' only run and
Megan Lesko was the only runner to score.
Taylor Spence took her second loss of the season, pitching 2.0 innings allowing five runs on four hits.
The Tigers will wrap up the Raising Cane's Festival with games against Fort Hays State University and Northeastern State University.
