Baseball Blanks SNU in Dominating Fashion for First GAC Win

BETHANY, Okla. – The East Central University baseball team secured their first Great American Conference win of the season with a commanding 17-0 run-rule victory to open the three-game series with Southern Nazarene University on Friday.

The win marked a milestone for the Tigers, as they had not shut out an opponent since April 5, 2019, against Ouachita Baptist University.

In an impressive offensive display, the Tigers broke out their bats, racking up 17 runs on 19 hits, while holding the Crimson Storm to just two hits and capitalizing on two errors.

Six different ECU players had multiple hits in the game, including Nick Blankenship, DeAngelo Morales, and Chris Griffis tallying three hits, while Kale Williams, Tanner Collins, and Britton Sperry added two hits apiece. Every player in the lineup recorded at least one hit.

The Tigers scored in four different innings, highlighted by a home run from Chris Griffis, a triple by Kale Williams, and doubles from Kale Williams, Nick Blankenship, Christian Whitaker, and DeAngelo Morales.

The scoring was consistent throughout the game, with three runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, one in the sixth, and a whopping nine in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Bryan Terry showcased one of the most dominant performances of his career, delivering a complete seven-inning game, allowing just two hits and no runs while striking out six batters to clinch the victory.

The ECU baseball team will wrap up the series with SNU tomorrow, March 2 in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
