ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The East Central University softball team opened their Great American Conference road series against Henderson State University with a 3-1 victory in game one, but fell 5-1 in game two, leveling the series heading into the finale on Sunday at noon.
The Tigers got off to an electrifying start in game one with
Elyse LeClair leading off with her first career home run to set the tone. After
Gabi Quintanilla drew a walk,
Caton Muncy's single led to an error by Henderson, allowing Quintanilla to score to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. To top off the inning,
Megan Lesko's RBI single drove in Muncy to extend ECU's lead to 3-0.
Starting pitcher
Taylor Spence and the Tiger defense were solid, not allowing the Reddies to record a hit until the fifth inning. Henderson would earn their only other hit and run in the next frame with a solo homer to get on the scoreboard, but the Tigers maintained control, securing the 3-1 victory.

Jami Watson, and
Rikki Hadley contributed six of ECU's nine hits, while
Caton Muncy,
Megan Lesko, and
Cheyenne Adair added one hit each.
Taylor Spence earned her sixth win in the circle pitching a complete seven innings, only giving up one run on two hits.
In game two, the Tigers would once again jump out to an early lead with
Rikki Hadley's RBI single up the middle in the second inning that scored pinch runner
Jaicee Stott for the 1-0 advantage.
Although Henderson was held scoreless for three straight innings, they would even the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Reddies carried that momentum into the next two frames, claiming their first lead of the series after adding three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to break open the game with a comfortable 5-1 lead.
The Tigers threatened a comeback in their last at-bats, with
Josi Goodman and
Gabi Quintanilla reaching first and second base with a pair of singles to get in scoring positions. However, the Tigers fell short with back-to-back strikeouts, resulting in a 5-1 loss to split the day.
Caton Muncy and
Cheyenne Adair led at the plate with two hits apiece, while
Gabi Quintanilla,
Jami Watson,
Rikki Hadley, and
Josi Goodman collected one hit each.
Amera Garner and
Lindsey Mauppin pitched 1.2 innings in relief after starting pitcher
Lauren HerrNeckar went 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.
