ADA, Okla. – The East Central University softball team faced Arlington Baptist on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader, staging a comeback in game one to win 7-5 before blanking the Patriots 8-0 in five innings in the nightcap to sweep the series.
The wins move the Tigers to 10-11 overall on the season as they gear up for another week of GAC play. ECU will quickly be back in action this weekend to face Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma.
The two teams met down the road from ECU under the lights at Latta High School.
In the first game, the Tigers found themselves trailing early with the Patriots pulling an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. ECU did not have an immediate answer, but by the bottom of the third,
Jami Watson's 2 RBU double to right center sent
Gabi Quintanilla and
Elyse LeClair home to level the score.
ABU managed to add three runs in the top of the fifth to regain the lead at 5-2, but with the help of relief work from
Amera Garner and a five-run rally from ECU in the fifth, the Tigers were able to pull out the 7-5 win.
The rally featured RBIs from
Gabi Quintanilla,
Megan Lesko,
Zoe Acosta, and
Cheyenne Adair before an error by the Patriots' third baseman kept
Emily Bingham safe at first while Acosta was able to score the seventh run.
Amera Garner picked up her first win in the circle tossing the last 2.1 innings without allowing any runs on one hit.
Gabi Quintanilla and
Elyse LeClair went an impressive 3-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs each in the process while
Caton Muncy,
Jami Watson,
Megan Lesko, and Brooklyn Flemming had one hit.
ECU cruised past ABU in game two, with
Lauren HerrNeckar leading the team to their first shutout of the season, only allowing one hit in the five-inning win.
After three and a half scoreless innings, the Tigers' offense came alive in the home half of the fourth, beginning with
Megan Lesko's double to right field followed by
Cheyenne Adair's bunt single to get ECU on the scoreboard. Then, an RBI single to centerfield from
Rikki Hadley gave Adair plenty of time to score for the 2-0 lead.
The Tigers continued to rally in the fifth inning, adding five runs on RBI singles from
Caton Muncy,
Megan Lesko, and
Jaicee Stott, along with a sacrifice fly from
Rikki Hadley before
Brooklyn Fleming ended the game scoring on a Patriot passed ball for the run-rule victory.
Gabi Quintanilla and
