Kipkemboi’s Record Highlights Men’s Track and Field at OBU Invitational

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University men's track and field team competed at the OBU invitational on Saturday for their second meet of the season. Once again, the Tigers celebrated an individual title, this time coming from Peter Kipkemboi.

Kipkemboi had a standout performance, winning the 1500m run with an impressive time of 3:49.39. Notably, he set a new ECU record in the process, surpassing the previous record held by Olympian Juan Pacheco, who clocked in at 3:52.74.
 
Kipkemboi's individual triumph in the 1500m showcased the team's strength, with three others athletes – Paul Korir, Aspel Kiprob, and Oliver Kiptoo – finishing in the top-10. Korir achieved a season-best time of 3:55.57, securing the runner-up spot. Kiprob followed closely behind in fourth place with a time of 3:56.37, while Kiptoo was next in sixth place with a new season best of 3:59.95.
 
Additionally, Chris Larson, Harley Cobb, AJ Gustin, Zander Wood, and Landon Vance rounded out the efforts in the 1500m race, placing 14th (4:06.27), 28th (4:13.66), 33rd (4:15.50), 36th (4:17.37), and 51st (4:29.10), respectively.
 
In the track events, the men's team also saw top-10 performances by Michael Iyali and Kuper Simonton, with Iyali claiming seventh in the 5000m run with a time of 15:35.80, while Simonton finished strong in 10th place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.66, an improvement from last week's competition.
 
In the field events, Johnathan Vaughan led the pack with a third-place finish in the discus throw, achieving a distance of 41.59m – a season-best on the year. Teammates Jaxon Merchant and Cade Duvall also competed in the event, landing 13th and 14th place with throws of 34.77m and 33.60m, respectively.
 
At shot put, Mekii Bell clinched the 10th spot with a throw of 12.73m while Merchant was right behind in 11th place with a distance of 12.63m.
 
The ECU men's track and field team will now prepare for their next meet at the Friends Open in Wichita, Kansas this weekend.
