Women’s Track and Field Compete at OBU Invitational

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University women's track and field team traveled to Shawnee, Oklahoma to compete at the OBU Invitational on Saturday for their second meet of the 2024 season.

Over the weekend, the Tigers saw six athletes deliver top-10 performances in their respective events. Damaris Chewon, Naomy Limatukei, Sheilah Cheruiyot, and Aurelia Jepkorir excelled in the 5000m, while Zoe Grooms and Kaylyn Cotner were strong in the high jump.
 
Chewon led the women's team with her second-place finish in the 5000m run, clocking in at 17:39.46 in her debut appearance in this event for the Tigers. Limatukei closely followed in third place, crossing the line at 17:47.43, while Cheruiyot and Jepkorir secured fifth and seventh place with times of 18:27.68 and 18:36.00, respectively.
 
In the high jump, Grooms claimed fifth-place with a leap of 1.53m. Although Cotner also cleared the 1.53m mark, Grooms secured the jump on her second attempt, while Cotner achieved it on her third attempt.
 
The ECU women's track and field team will now prepare for their next competition at the Friends Open in Wichita, Kansas next weekend.
