RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The East Central University baseball team made it's last Arkansas road trip of the season on Friday and Saturday, facing off against Arkansas Tech University in a three-game series. The Tigers were looking to rebound from their previous matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State University the week before, but they could not get it done, dropping all three games 11-1, 12-2, and 17-1, respectively.
Game One:
ATU struck first, tallying one run in the bottom of the first inning for the early 1-0 lead. ECU immediately answered back in the next frame with an RBI single from
Gage Boatman to level the score 1-1, but the Wonder Boys added one more run in the home half to lead again at 2-1.
Although the game remained a close contest for two more innings, ATU would break open the game with four runs in the fifth to suddenly extend their advantage to 6-1. With the Tigers only registering five hits in the game, the Wonder Boys continued to add runs in the sixth and seventh inning to seal the 11-1 run-rule victory.
Kale Williams went 2-for-2 at the plate while
Dione Allen,
Gage Boatman, and
Britton Sperry contributed one hit.
Bryan Terry got the start on the mound for the Tigers, tossing 5.2 innings allowing eight runs on 12 hits.
Game Two:
While ECU registered seven hits, an improvement from the game before, ATU wasted no time getting on the score board, racking up two runs in the first inning and five in the second for a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Tigers capitalized on a throwing error to plate
Britton Sperry to put them on the board, but the Wonder Boys' offense did not let up, adding runs in the fourth and fifth for an 11-1 advantage.
Tanner Collins' 2 RBI double down the left field line drove in
Kale Williams to make the score 11-2, but a final run by ATU in the seventh concluded the game with a 12-2 run-rule defeat for the Tigers.
Dione Allen and
Nick Blankenship had multi-hits with two apiece while
Pryce Jackson,
Kale Williams, and
Tanner Collins each added one.
Price Daube got the start on the mound in game two but also took the loss, going 1.1 innings allowing seven runs on four hits. Bruce Crawford,
Jarod Leroux, and
Chase Owens all came in relief.
Game Three:
The series finale was much similar to game two, with ATU tallying up runs early and never looking back. The Wonder Boys grabbed five runs in the first inning and three in the second and third to lead 11-0 before the Tigers scored their first run.
Britton Sperry's RBI single in the fifth inning brought the score to 11-1, but ATU surged ahead in the sixth, plating six runs to cap off the series sweep.
Nick Blankenship and
Gage Boatman led at the plate going 2-for-3 while
Austin Wood,
Tanner Collins, and
Britton Sperry added one hit apiece.
