Kipkemboi Breaks 5000m Record at John Jacobs Invitational
NORMAN, Okla. – East Central University track & field had a standout performance from
Peter Kipkemboi, who shattered the school record in the men's 5000m to highlight the Tigers' showing at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma on Friday.

Kipkemboi became the first Tiger ever in history to run the 5000m in under 14 minutes, clocking in at an impressive 13:54.91. His time is nearly twelve seconds faster than the previous record of 14:06.82, held by teammate
Aspel Kiprob last season. Kipkemboi's stellar performance secured him the top-spot while also standing as the 14
th-best mark in Division II this season.
The Tigers showcased their dominance in the 5000m, with
Aspel Kiprob and
Paul Korir delivering top-five finishes. Kiprob crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 14:02.48 to break his own record and secure a 26
th-best mark in Division II while Korir followed behind in fourth, achieving a new personal best time of 14:26.13.
Notably, seven other Tigers reached new heights, recording personal best times in their respective events.
Kuper Simonton set a personal best in the 400m hurdles (1:03.02), while
Chris Larson (1:58.00) and Landon Vance (2:02.18) also clocked personal bests in the 800m.
Harley Cobb secured a personal best in the 1500m (4:13.62), and
Aidan Wells (15:38.12) and
Joel Rodriguez (16:03.31) set new personal bests in the 5000m. Additionally,
Cade Duvall claimed the only new personal record in a field event with a distance of 34.37m in the discus throw.
The ECU track & Field team will now prepare for the Ford Mastin Twilight Meet hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University on April 20.
