Men’s Track & Field Posts a Pair of NCAA Provisional Marks at Ford Mastin Twilight

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University men's track and field team finished the regular season strong at the Ford Mastin Twilight hosted by Oklahoma Baptist University last week.
 
Among the nine track events and three field events they competed in, the Tigers took home three individual title wins and earned two NCAA provisional marks.
 
The meet kicked off with Peter Kipkemboi claiming first place in the 800m with a time of 1:54.83, followed by teammate Chris Larson in fourth crossing the line at 1:58.86.
 
Harley Cobb highlighted the 1500m race with a personal best time of 4:13.33 to secure sixth place while Zander Wood, AJ Gustin, Ladon Vance, Maverick Stephenson, and Joel Rodriguez followed suit, claiming seventh (4:23.18), eighth (4:26.06), 11th (4:30.74), 12th(4:33.70), and 13th(4:35.02) places, respectively.  
 
The Tigers continued to dominate in the 3000m steeple with Aspel Kiprob, Paul Korir, and Michael Iyali securing a 1-2-3 finish. Kiprob clinched the second win of the day for the squad crossing the line in an impressive time of 9:02.43 while Korir was close behind finishing at 9:04.84. Both of these times met the NCAA provisional standard and ranks 21st and 24th in Division II.
 
Melvin Kipkemboi concluded the running events on a high note, claiming his first individual event victory in the 5000m with a time of 15:22.12.
 
In the field events, John Vaughan led the discus throw with a mark of 38.20m, followed by Jaxon Merchant in eighth recording a throw of 35.33m and Cade Duvall in 11th reaching 30.36m.
 
Mekii Bell represented the Tigers in the shot put with a mark of 12.49m for seventh place while Jaxon Merchant and David Alexander reached 11.84m and 9.13m for 8th and 14th place, respectively.
 
As the only Tigers competing in their respective event, Kuper Simonton secured seventh in the 110m hurdle (16.84) and eighth in the 400m hurdle (54.93), while Eddie Jennings and Jeremiah Rice placed 11th in the 100m and 400m run.
 
The ECU men's track and field team will now look forward to competing in the GAC Championships in Magnolia, Arkansas May 1-3.
