Todd Selders Named ECU Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach
ADA, Okla. – East Central University Athletic Director Matt Cole announced today that Todd Selders will take the reins of the reinstated Tiger men's and women's golf teams, marking a new chapter in the program's history after an eight-year hiatus.
"I cannot express my gratitude enough for the opportunity that Athletic Director Matt Cole and ECU President Wendell Godwin have given me to serve as the head golf coach at East Central University," said Selders. "I am looking forward to starting up the men's and women's golf programs."
Selders brings 27 years of experience coaching at the collegiate level, building up several successful programs at the NCAA Division I, Division II, and NCJAA levels.
"I am thrilled to welcome Todd Selders into the Athletic Department and ECU," expressed Cole. "The journey to revive Tiger golf has been extensive, involving decisions to reinstate the program, developing infrastructure, and finding the program's leader. Selders' proven success as a coach and his connections in the golf community will greatly enhance his ability to recruit and develop talent in our programs."
ECU President Wendell Godwin echoed the enthusiasm, saying, "We are excited to add longtime golf coach Todd Selders to the ECU family! This experience is going to be a huge benefit to the ECU student-athletes moving forward. We are happy to have Todd return home to coach in Oklahoma again."
Selders joins ECU from the University of West Georgia, where he guided the Wolves since 2017. Under his leadership, the men's and women's team saw continued success, including the program's first player to qualify for the NCAA Nationals, one Gulf South Conference championship, a GSC Golfer of the Year, a GSC Freshman of the Year, five All-Americans, and numerous All-GSC Selections. Additionally, one of his former players, Sam Jones, is currently on the DP World Tour.
Selders has also led his teams to high academic achievements, with his men's team posting the highest GPA for male sports at UWG from 2017-2024, and both programs receiving several All-Scholar accolades.
Prior to his tenure at West Georgia, Selders had coaching stints at Charleston Southern, West Texas College, Iowa, North Carolina State, Coastal Carolina, and Southern Methodist University. His first collegiate coaching job was at the University of Oklahoma, where he served as the men's assistant coach from 1997-2000.
At Charleston Southern, Selders led his team to a fourth-place finish at the Big South Conference Championship after being picked ninth in the preseason polls. His teams at North Carolina State, Coastal Carolina, and Southern Methodist all qualified for the NCAA Tournament, including four straight trips to Regionals as the head coach for SMU from 2004-2008. In 2004, Selders was named Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and, in 2006, Conference-USA Coach of the Year.
As a player, Selders competed all four years at Central State in Edmond, Oklahoma and earned a bachelor's degree in history. While he was coaching at SMU, he received a Master's degree in Arts.
The ECU men's and women's golf teams are planning to compete in the Fall of 2025.
