PITTSBURG – The East Central University soccer team continued their non-conference schedule with a road test against Pittsburg State University, narrowly falling 1-0 to the Gorillas on Thursday at Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
The first half featured big defensive efforts on both sides, with ECU and Pitt State each logging seven shots but failing to score. Tiger goalkeeper
Madison Mayhall made three crucial saves in the opening frame while the Gorilla's made four stops to keep the score deadlocked 0-0 heading into halftime.
Out of the break, the score remained tied until halfway through the second period when Pitt State netted in the 70
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. ECU tried to equalize in the final 20 minutes, including a notable attempt from
Kaylee Bruce in the 72
nd minute, but was thwarted by the Gorilla's keeper.
The match was closely contested as Pitt State took 13 shots compared to ECU's 12, with both teams managing 6 shots on goal.
Kaylee Bruce led ECU with four shots, including two on target, while
Melieah Hinnant registered three shots and two on goal.
Abbie Morris recorded two shots, while
Emily Cavazos and
Ximena Resendiz had one apiece.
The ECU soccer team will look to bounce back on Saturday, Sept. 14 as they host Angelo State University at Tiger Soccer Field at 1 pm.
