Men’s Golf Wraps Up Battle for the Belt
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The East Central University men's golf team competed in their second tournament of the season at Henderson State University's Battle for the Belt, held Sept. 29-30 at Hot Springs Country Club. After a strong start, the Tigers stood in eighth place following the opening 36 holes but encountered challenges on the final day, ultimately finishing 12th overall.
After three rounds,
Gabriel Jones led the team with a consistent performance, finishing at +6 overall.
Pablo Illescas closely followed at +7, while
Gage Tennyson and
Jackson Jones both finished at +14.
Conner Compton rounded out the scoring at +35.
On day one, the Tigers were paced by
Gabriel Jones, who posted rounds of 71 (-1) and 74 (+2) for a two-round total of 145 (+1), the team's best overall.
Pablo Illescas contributed steady play with rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3), finishing at 149 (+5).
Jackson Jones rebounded in the second round after a slow start, improving from a 79 (+7) to an even-par 72, finishing at 151 (+7).
Gage Tennyson delivered one of the biggest turnarounds, bouncing back from an 82 (+10) to an even-par 72, ending day one at 154 (+10).
Conner Compton rounded out the lineup with rounds of 79 (+7) and 88 (+16), finishing at 167 (+23).
On day three, the Tigers faced mixed results as the competition intensified. Illescas maintained steady play with a 74 (+2), while
Gabriel Jones and
Gage Tennyson posted solid rounds of 77 (+5) and 76 (+4), respectively.
Jackson Jones and
Conner Compton struggled more, shooting 79 (+7) and 84 (+12).
Despite the challenges, ECU will look to build on these performances as they prepare for their next competition at the Cameron University Hrnciar Invitational at Territory Golf Club on Oct. 6-7.
