Soccer Rallies Late to Earn 1-1 Draw Against OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team continued its road stretch with a midweek matchup in Shawnee, facing off against Oklahoma Baptist University for the second time this season. The Tigers battled through a tough start but showed resilience late to earn a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening.

The home team struck early, finding the back of the net just two minutes into the match. Despite the early deficit, ECU's defense settled in and kept the game within reach, highlighted by a strong performance from the Tigers' goalkeeper Madison Mayhall, who tallied nine saves on the night.

In the second half, ECU found its rhythm offensively, outshooting the opponent 8-7 and pushing forward in search of the equalizer. The persistence paid off in the 86th minute when Ximena Resendiz netted her second goal of the season to tie the match 1-1, completing a late rally for the Tigers.

By the final whistle, ECU totaled 12 shots with three on goal, while holding firm defensively to secure the draw. The result marks the second tie between the two teams this season and moves East Central to 1-5-4 in Great American Conference play.

The Tigers will look to build on the momentum from their late comeback as they enter the final stretch of their GAC slate. ECU will take on Southern Nazarene University on Saturday, November 1 at 4:30 pm.
