ADA, Okla. – The East Central University soccer team hosted Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Saturday for their second home Great American Conference matchup of the week, falling 3-1 after 90 minutes of play at Tiger Soccer Field.
With the loss, ECU drops to 0-3-1 in GAC play, while SWOSU improves to 3-0-0.
Much like their previous match, the Tigers found themselves trailing early, as SWOSU scored just 37 seconds into the match. ECU responded with attempts from
Melieah Hinnant and
Madison Martinez, but neither found the target.
The Bulldogs extended their lead in the 21st minute, going up 2-0. ECU looked to respond before the break with shots from
Ximena Resendiz and
Emily Green, but both missed the mark, sending the Tigers into halftime down by two.
Both teams created chances in the second half, recording nine shots apiece. SWOSU capitalized again in the 77th minute to stretch their lead to 3-0. The Tigers continued to fight, and in the 87th minute,
Reece Roberson's shot deflected off the keeper and fell to
Melieah Hinnant, who slotted it home to put ECU on the board.
However, with time winding down, the Tigers were unable to mount a comeback.
Statistically, ECU edged SWOSU in shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (7-3), while SWOSU held a slight advantage in total shots (15-13).
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as they host Southern Nazarene University at 2 p.m. at Tiger Soccer Field.
