DURANT, Okla. – The East Central University volleyball team traveled to Durant on Tuesday night for a rivalry matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Despite earning a win in their first meeting earlier this season, the Tigers struggled to find offensive rhythm this time around, falling in straight sets (25-14, 25-18, 25-23).
With the loss, ECU drops to 5-8 in Great American Conference play, while Southeastern improves to 3-10.
ECU now returns home to Ada to prepare for its next GAC matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
The Tigers started strong in the opening set, jumping out to an early 5-1 lead. However, the Storm responded with a dominant 12-1 run to take control, building a 13-6 advantage. ECU was unable to recover as Southeastern continued to capitalize on scoring runs, taking the first set 25-14.
Set two followed a similar pattern, with Southeastern carrying momentum from the opener to grab an early 10-3 lead. The Tigers battled back to pull within one at 13-12, but the Storm used timely scoring bursts to extend their lead and claim the second set 25-18.
The third set proved to be the most competitive of the night. Both teams traded points throughout, with ECU rallying from a 22-18 deficit to take a 23-22 lead after a key 5-0 scoring run. Unfortunately, the Storm responded once more, capturing the final three points to seal the sweep.
Errors plagued the Tigers throughout the match, disrupting their offensive rhythm and preventing sustained momentum.
Jayla Buford led the Tigers with seven kills, while
Adelle McCormick added five.
Emily Pena dished out 19 assists, and
Valentina Tijerina anchored the defense with 19 digs.
ECU now returns home to Ada to prepare for its next GAC matchup against Southwestern Oklahoma State University on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
